Drama is a subject that should both contribute to, and take from, other areas of the curriculum – It has noboundaries and enables every child to achieve where other subjects may fail! Drama should encourage allpupils to take part, to develop the ability to interact positively with others and to gain an understanding andawareness of themselves. Drama is not to be confused with play, as the children are expected to exert self-discipline at all times, but is to be promoted as another real learning opportunity. It is not necessarilysolely about ‘ acting’ and ‘audience’ but encompasses role-play, movement and dance appreciation, someinstructions in stagecraft, staging and dramatic theory, actions, songs and poems and the presentation oftheir ideas.
Aims and Objectives
In order for these aims to be achieved, it is necessary that:
"Pupils should be given the opportunity to participate in a wide range, e.g. drama activities including role-play, improvisation, writing of scripts etc. In response to drama, pupils should be encouraged to evaluate theirown and others’ contribution." (English National Curriculum KS2)
