English - Aims and Objectives The importance of language cannot be stressed enough. The development of language is central to the education process. The whole curriculum is affected by our thinking about language and it is our responsibility to provide broad and stimulating activities that foster language development.Children arrive at school with differing experiences of language, sometimes of more than one language. It is important that these experiences are built upon to provide opportunities to extend their use of language regardless of gender, class, race, culture, religion or ability. We aim to promote confidence and fluency in both written and spoken language. In doing this, we aim to satisfy the demands of the National Literacy Strategy and seek to incorporate this framework into the department’s good primary practice. We aim to introduce pupils to the richness and diversity of language, equipping them to participate as fully as possible in public, cultural and working life. We wish to make the language appear to be a source of enjoyment to us all.The English Curriculum encourages and expects high standards from all the children.
