FRENCH
French is taught for one lesson a week in Years 3 and 4, and for two lessons a week in Years 5 and 6.
Year 3. We reflect the curriculum by studying numbers, the alphabet, colours, the weather and time. We learn how to ask for ice creams.
Year 4. We use the topic of Breakfast to learn polite table manners and to go shopping. We ask for directions round town.
Year 5. We study dates, time and weather. We talk about ourselves, our families, pets, houses and bedrooms.
Year 6. We describe ourselves and our leisure interests. We order a meal in a restaurant. We talk about school subjects. We learn how to explain that we have lost items of clothing.

French is learnt with the emphasis on listening and speaking, with some reading and copying of phrases. In Year 6 there is creative writing.
A variety of media is used including television, IT and the video-cam.
There is a system of self assessment for pupils to monitor their own progress.
Year 6 spend a week in a château in France enjoying outdoor pursuits as well as French lessons.
