Humanities
History and Geography are taught throughout the Junior school enabling every child to develop his or her knowledge and understanding of both subjects together with the ability to organise and communicate information.
History is the study of the interaction of people and events throughout time in the whole world. Thus it is a story of the past. It involves trying to find out what happened and learning about events - therefore we act like detectives, building up a picture from a variety of clues. These clues could include the following; maps, pictures, stories, artefacts, models, documents or museum displays.
Geography is the study of people, places and the interaction between them. It is not merely the ability to remember the names and locations of places on maps, but consists of concepts and skills, which relate to the physical and human environment. Geography is an enquiry based subject and any questions raised in this subject will be related to one of a number of key areas of enquiry: Where is this place? What is it like? Why is it like that? How does this place compare to other places? How is it changing?
