Mathematics

The teaching of mathematics is wide ranging in terms of areas and topics covered, the overall structure being based on both National Curriculum Documentation and the specific requirements of the Entrance Examination for the older children. Approaches to teaching are equally wide-ranging and varied; formal class teaching exists alongside group and paired activities, and a great deal of practical work, including the use of games is encouraged. Problem solving activities and mental maths sessions are considered crucial to children's development and form a regular part of lessons. We stress that there are often many ways of achieving a particular answer and encourage children to explain their methods as a learning tool for others.
Our main aim is to provide a stimulating, challenging and relevant maths environment which children enjoy and which allows them to achieve their fullest potential at all times.
