St Dunstan’s College Junior School’s collective acts of worship are predominantly Christian, while we seek to celebrate and value other faiths represented within our school family and our local community.
Aims
- To share bible teaching and stories and to talk about their relevance to the children’s life in school and at home.
- To celebrate the main events in the Christian and other faiths calendars.
- To encourage children in reflection and prayer.
- To celebrate the achievements and awards of groups and individuals.
- To share information and news with each other.
- To welcome visiting speakers into the Junior School, e.g. to represent charities.
- For year groups to lead the Junior School termly in a celebration assembly focusing on a particular focus or project.
- To share music making within the Junior School, giving pupils of all abilities the chance to perform in public.
- To establish a sense of identity as a school, Department, class, year group or house.
The Pre-Preparatory Department:
The Pre-Preparatory Department will meet daily for 15 minutes in their own hall. All children will attend unless their class teacher gives permission otherwise.
A different member of the teaching staff will lead these assemblies each day. The content will vary but may include:
- Bible stories.
- Christian based stories.
- Stories containing moral teaching.
- A celebration of Christian Festivals.
- Appropriate videos, e.g. The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.
- Singing of traditional and Christian songs
- Radio broadcasts of ‘Something to think about’.
- Information about timetables or routines.
On a Thursday morning the Pre-Preparatory Department will meet with the Preparatory Department, usually in the Great Hall.
