Coursework Guidance

Coursework is a very important part of the Chemistry course. Good coursework can really boost your grade for much less effort than it takes to boost your marks in the written examination papers. You are not allowed to pass GCSE Chemistry/Science unless you have completed the coursework part of the course.

In Year 9 there will be some coursework carried out. This is important because it counts towards your end of year mark and helps decide into which set you will be placed in Year 10. The most important coursework is from Year 10 onwards. Year 10 coursework also counts towards the end of year mark.

The marks awarded for GCSE Coursework are 20% of the total marks. At AS level (Year 12) coursework constitutes 30% of the marks, and coursework carried out in Years 12 and 13 constitute 22.5% of the total mark for the A2 course in Year 13.
