What can our Department offer its students?
Alistair Schofield’s young and dynamic team makes English an exciting prospect at St Dunstan’s. Literature is at the heart of all our teaching – students love reading and are encouraged to learn independently and to interact with each other. Lessons are characteristically exciting, challenging and stimulating. Students often work in groups to share original ideas and produce creative and imaginative writing,
English is also: drama, ICT, debating, reading, poetry workshops and independent learning centred on the library. Students achieve excellent examination results. But there is much more …
English at St Dunstan’s beyond the classroom means …
The department boasts a team of highly qualified, enthusiastic and dynamic subject specialists.
The team is lead by Alistair Schofield. Alistair is a former actor who coaches tennis and has run the London Marathon. His Masters degree is from the University of London. Alistair is a keen supporter of Leeds United; he has a recently directed the Northern Review Evening to rave notices.
Eva Yemenakis is second in department. A Cambridge graduate and voracious reader of nineteenth century novels, Eva is an active member of the St Dunstan’s Family Society. However, the Department’s greatest strength is its depth. Nic Amy is also Head of Year Nine. He runs debating within the department and competes in triathlons in his spare time. Janet Oliver has travelled widely and amongst many other skills has run a Salsa club at School. Jane Williams is a very experienced teacher who runs an Amnesty International society as well as a support club. The department welcomes Rebecca Wildish to the school this year.
What binds the department is its love of Literature, its enthusiasm and its commitment to teaching and learning.
