Text Box: German is offered as an option from Year 8 onwards, and is an important option for anyone considering going into business or the academic world.
The Department is well equipped with sound and video recordings by native speakers, which are very effective teaching aids. Students often work in pairs and use role-play to develop their skills. A popular programme of visits and exchanges operates each year. This helps greatly in developing their knowledge of the language and confidence in its use. In term time, students have the benefit of regular oral classes with a foreign language assistant.
The GCSE examination tests the four principal linguistic skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing. The syllabus is topic based covering areas such as home and daily routines, media, youth culture and health.

At A Level students follow the Edexcel specification, taking the AS examination at the end of the Lower Sixth before going on to A2. The course is designed to be enjoyable as well as testing. Standards are very high, and over the last two years every student has achieved an A grade.
