Text Box: Everyone studies French in Years 7, 8 and 9. After that it is a popular option for GCSE. As well as focusing on the development of language skills, the Department also aims to introduce students to French culture.
Overall, during the study of French, we give equal weight to the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In Year 7 however we put a real emphasis on communication, at the same time ensuring that grammar - an important feature of the GCSE course - is integrated as much as possible from the outset. The Year 7 and 8 courses provide opportunities for stimulating project work around cultural topics.
At both GCSE and A Level the teaching approach is very interactive and draws on ICT and Internet resources. With the help of the Department’s French Language Assistant, the students also work to extend and develop their oral skills with the French Language.
The work of the Department is well supported by a thriving Modern Languages Society through which a wide variety of academic and cultural events and excursions are on offer.
