Pupils' Acceptable Use Policy for College ICT Facilities

The ICT Department thinks these rules are fair, reasonable and the best way of safeguarding the ICT network. If you disagree, don't ignore them, come and discuss them with me. The smooth-running of the ICT network is vital for the College, so if you choose to ignore these rules, punishments may follow.

DO:

• keep your ID and password secret - don't share it with anyone
• use College computers only for school work
• change your password regularly, maybe once a term
• behave sensibly
• report faulty computers to your teacher or a member of the ICT support team
• leave your work area (keyboard, mouse and headphones) tidy when you have finished working
• ask the ICT support team to transfer files to/from a floppy disc or CD for you
• create files in your 'MyWork' areas or a shared area - but nowhere else
• get the agreement of any person whose personal details you mention in a piece of work
• use your printer credits sensibly - you may be charged for extra credits

DON'T:

• eat or drink in an ICT room (and this includes chewing gum)
• log on with anyone else's username and password
• let someone else log on with your username and password
• use CDs or floppy discs on a school computer
• alter your computer's desktop (the screen with the program icons on it)
• download anything onto a network computer or alter software that is already there
• encode or password-protect any file
• look at, create or use material that is illegal or has racist, sexist, obscene, violent, offensive or bullying content. We actively monitor your work to make sure that this rule is being followed
• try to buy or sell anything using a network computer
• play on-line games
• give personal information on the Internet, for example: bank account or credit card details, home telephone numbers, full names, addresses or photographs, unless you have the permission of a teacher
• use or interfere with any College computer or communications equipment without permission

YOU ARE:

• personally responsible for the content of any work you produce or ask to be put on a school computer
