• In Year 11, students are studying either Double Award Science or separate GCSE Physics. In Year 10, all students are studying Double Award Science.

• In September 2006, students beginning Year 10 will experience the new Edexcel 360 Science course and continue to Additional Science in Year. 11

• GCSE really begins in Year 9, when students are given a solid grounding in electric circuits, mechanics, energy and waves.

• Most of the coursework for the current GCSE is completed by the end of Year 10. However, the new GCSE brings with it major changes in assessment, which includes practical skills assessment and externally set assessment tasks, accounting for 40% of the overall mark.

• Pupils are encouraged to develop IT skills through research projects culminating in PowerPoint^TM presentations.
